When Scripture uses the singular, we are not to apply it to ourselves. It is speaking of one person, most of the time referring to Jesus. Only when Scripture uses the plural are we to apply these Scriptures to ourselves.

Eg; "He who believes on Me, though He were dead, yet shall He live." This is not speaking of all men. It is the Father speaking about Jesus. He had a dead soul as all men have. Yes, He also had a Divine Spirit which is called the Son of God. However, Jesus' human soul was the same as all men's souls. It was dead due to Adam's sin. Yet the Father told Mary and Martha using Jesus' tongue, that Jesus who believed on Him (the Father), though He had a dead soul, yet He would live through God's power once He had endured the cross.
