CATCHBOAT OPERATORS WANTED FOR WORK

ON OKANAGAN LAKE THIS SUMMER

Position: Catchboat Operator

Job Type: Seasonal-Full time / (April – September 2018)

Pay Rate: based on experience

Location: Vernon, British Columbia

Mechanically inclined individuals
wanted for seasonal full time work on Okanagan Lake. Training to start in April
and Fishing to start when shrimp are harvestable at a reasonable rate (usually
around May 1). Season runs till September 30th 2018. Join this exciting
environmental cleanup project working on Piscine Fishing Company’s Mysis Shrimp
Harvesting vessels (30 – 35 feet). Piscine Fishing Company in conjunction with
the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resources is working to revitalize
the Kokanee Salmon population in Lake Okanagan through the reduction and
removal of Mysis shrimp (which competes with the Kokanee fry for the same
microscopic feed: i.e. phytoplankton).

Our unique way of fishing is done during
nighttime hours with shifts usually consisting of 10 to 12 hours or more. This position is perfect for you if you have
mechanical knowledge. You are familiar with the risks associated with working
on the water and that top of mind safety awareness is just as important as
landing the catch. As you will be required to operate the catchboat on your
own, your prior employers and references which are to be supplied with the
submission of your resume will confirm your skill sets. You have successfully
demonstrated in the past that you are a mechanically inclined individual who is able to
troubleshoot on the fly with a “make it happen attitude” and work ethic.

Duties will include but are
not limited to:

1.
Helping the
fishboat captain to set the gear to start fishing and bring in gear at end of
fishing each morning.

2.
Lifting weights
in excess of 90 lbs.

3.
Running a 14-16
foot heavy duty aluminum skiff with outboard engine.

4.
Filling out all
checklists and report what may be needed for the next nights fishing.

5.
Oil changes to
trash pumps and genset when needed.

6.
Repairs to
fishing gear as required to keep fishing.

7.
Any other general
maintenance required as well as cleaning and organizing catchboat after each
night of fishing.

8.
Stick to schedule
(10 days on – 4 days off) including working holidays if falling into time on.

9.
Follow all
company policies in regards to safety etc.

10. Take extra care to produce a good quality
product.

11. Valid
First Aid and Radio Operators Certificate an asset.

Proper radio etiquette
a must.
