These are the most comfortable seats in the house!! I've never sat on a more comfortable piece of furniture. Honestly! And while the love seat is operated manually, the sofa reclines (on both end seats) at the touch of a button! We purchased these about 24 months ago at Art Van. Sale price for the pair: $4,000. No kids in the house and the dog has his own bed so there are no stains or blemishes of any kind anywhere on this plush fabric. Actually, the sofa has rarely ever been used. I wanted to keep these pieces but the wife said they're not suitable for a Florida Great Room. She may be right this time :)
And Yes, the backs lift up and off the mechanism. The color is sort of a dark Khaki or "mushroom", very warm and neutral. You should be able to get a technical description of the fabric' s performance on Flexsteel's website, but I can say it is very pleasing to the touch and, not that we've ever spilled anything on it, it's seemingly impervious to any signs of use.
