Proteins can be post-translationally modified in many different ways. Common post-transcriptional modifications of lysine involve methylation. Lysine can be methylated once, twice or three times by lysine methyltransferase. The transfer of methyl groups from S-adenosylmethionine to histones is catalyzed by an enzyme called histone methyltransferase (HMT). Histone lysine methylation occurs on histones H3 and H4, depending on the methylation site, it can indicate transcriptional activation or repression. Histone Methylation Peptides
